CYPRUS COVID-19 UPDATE 9TH APRIL

It has been exactly one month since the announcement of the first positive case in Cyprus, on the 9th of March. Sadly, we have reached 564 positive cases and 10 deaths.

The positive cases of Covid-19 in Cyprus have been announced to be 38 out of a total of 1216 tests. Since the 7th of April, the number of tests has almost doubled and is about 1200-1300 on daily basis. This is because the tests include random sample in order to have a general understanding on the percentage to the total population. It was officially announced that over the next 20 days there would be about 20,000 random tests on working personnel such as Hospital, Police, Government Sector, Banks. The relevant announcement is posted here.

On an other note, last night it was announced by the president that the lockdown will be extended until the end of April, i.e. two weeks extra than the initial date.

It would be interesting to have an updated view on the chart showing the number of cases by test, which was also displayed in an earlier post.

The percentage of positive cases per test since the 5th of April are in the range of about 2-3%. There is indeed an increase over the last three days that we must re-examine in the near future. Therefore, as the tests are expected to be kept at the same levels over the next days, it would be unlikely to see daily numbers below 20 in the near future. The actual cases are not showing that the coronovirus is out of control, but that the number of tests have increased and the new numbers are showing a picture closer to reality.

There is also an update on the chart showing the daily cases and the total curve as we are approaching the 600 total cases.
